Things to consider in advance.
Each note is one category, and what tends to go wrong when that category is thin or missing. The shopping list still comes from your answers.
Build my kitWater·October 26, 2026
What happens when the water runs outThirst shows up fast. So does the handwashing you stop doing, and the food you can no longer cook.
Duration·October 26, 2026
A kit that ends on day fourMost short plans are fine until the outage outlasts them. A long plan you never buy is the same as no plan.
Food·October 26, 2026
Food you can't actually eatHunger is the obvious risk. The common one is a closet of meals that need a tool, water, or a stomach you don't have.
Power·October 26, 2026
The second night with the lights offThe first night is annoying. The risk is the dark staircase, the dead phone, and no way to hear what the county is saying.
Storms·October 26, 2026
After the stores are already emptyThe afternoon before a bad storm, the water aisle is gone. Afterward, the tap may be the thing you shouldn't trust.
Winter·October 26, 2026
A house that gets cold from the insideThe furnace can quit in January because the power did. The risk is a long night in a house that used to be warm.
Leaving·October 26, 2026
Leaving with an empty backpackThe risk is the twenty minutes you get to walk out. Water jugs for the week stay in the house. The medicine often does too.
First aid·October 26, 2026
The bottle that runs out on day threeA first aid kit covers new injuries. The sharper risk is the medicine someone already takes, every day, with a date on it.
The rest of the list·October 26, 2026
When the toilet stops and the papers are somewhere elseDirty hands and a bag of waste in a hallway make people sick faster than an empty pantry does. Lost IDs make the week after harder.
Limits·October 26, 2026
The risks this list will not shop forMedicine, self-defense, and the car are real gaps if you ignore them. They are also the wrong thing for a stranger's shopping list to sell you.
